International Advisers Conference

fig4_2_2017

The GSS Program registers frontline researchers and practitioners as International Advisors and Industry-Government-Academy Collaboration Advisors who provide advice to the Program student and our education. The advisors are invited once a year to the Advisers’ Conference. The purpose of the Conference is to set opportunity for interdisciplinary and international exchange of views and discussions with people who work on cutting-edge efforts, practices and research, and let the Program students make presentations through which students can build up experiences of discussions at international settings. Furthermore, through active participation of students in planning of the Conference, students can utilize those experiences for future career building.

Message from GSS Program Coordinator and Unit Director

Welcome to the GSS Symposium 2017 at Inamori Foundation Memorial Hall, Kyoto University on October 6-7, 2017. Since this year is the last year of the GSS program under the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), we set the symposium theme as “Lessons Learned and Future Endeavors” to review our GSS program activity and future prospect of the interdisciplinary graduate school education program. For this symposium we invite the GSS International/Industry Advisers as speakers to gain insights into emerging industrial perspectives for fostering human resources as future
global leaders.
The Program has provided GSS students with five-years learning opportunities such as field training, internship, interdisciplinary seminars, international academic exchange, industry-university collaborative project and international cooperation project. We already have 11 students who completed this Program, and 75 students are currently with this GSS program. A wide variety of their educational backgrounds is a unique point of the GSS program, as they come from nine graduate schools and three research institutes of Kyoto University: Graduate Schools of Education, Economics, Medicine, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Asia and Africa Area Studies (ASAFAS), Informatics, and Global Environmental Studies; and Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH), Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), and Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS).
We are looking forward to the constructive discussions on the symposium through different perspectives across disciplines. We appreciate all the cooperation provided for this symposium and GSS program by advisors, GSS professors and staffs, and the joining Graduate Schools and Research Institutes of Kyoto University.
