Purpose

1. Understand the three areas of focus for a high-performance team and learn specific skills to lead a team:

– Direction: Create shared vision and goals

Process: Manage team processes to achieve the goal

– People: Leverage diversity and build relationships within the team.

2. Building trusting with team members

3. Formulate action plans in order to exercise effective leadership in the real world

 

Contents and Methods

◆Introduction

Goal and ground rules, Icebreaker activity (interactive lecture)

◆Understanding a what high performance teams are (activity & interactive lecture)

Discuss the three elements of high performance teams

Understanding a what the leader’s role within teams (interactive lecture)

Discuss current strengths and development areas (group discussion)

◆Creating a Vision Statement

Write, share and receive peer feedback on a vision statement draft (individual work & pair activity)

◆Understanding and practicing active listening

Understand what active listening is (interactive lecture)

Practice active listening skills (real play exercises)

◆Building trust

Discuss behaviors that build and erode trust (class discussion)

Learn techniques for building trust (group discussion)

Discuss how to apply the techniques to work (interactive small group exercise)

◆Creating messages to gain buy-in from others

Understand how to connect your goals with others’ interests (interactive lecture)

Practice writing and delivering messages to gain buy-in (individual and small group exercise)

◆Wrap-up / Review what we learned, Action planning

Review learnings from the workshop (group discussion)

Create a personal action plan (individual work)
